Tottonians 0 - 31 Heathens Academy

Heathens started their new campaign against the side they finished the previous season against. Would they keep their heads, or get caught up in a frantic encounter? Excitement was in the air for staff and players alike, most of who were just glad to have finished the 16-week 'Colin Plan'. There was instant chaos when it was realised there was no referee available, but fortunately a large ginger fellow who smelt rather like Guinness and eggs appeared through the crowd like some sort of superhero tramp and stepped into the breach.

It was a hard, physical start, one which the academy slightly sleep walked into. They found themselves embroiled in a series of individual battles, rather than consolidating their combined ability. On the 30 min mark however, things began to look up when Aaron Harrod scored to add five points to two earlier Jon Dawes penalties.

The second half saw a much more composed performance, with the forwards smashing phase after phase into Tots' defensive line ultimately creating space. Harrod stepped up twice more as part of a four-try second half, his hat trick ensuring a great night on tour for all involved, courtesy of Jim.

Congratulations to Tom Rooke who marked his debut with a late try, but who also alienated his peers with his performance of that old sailors classic YMCA in the changing room.

It was not all rosey however, two yellow cards per side showed how much these teams wanted it. Clearly first match nerves were in abundance and Heathens will certainly hope for a more composed performance with the arrival of Jersey to Cams Alders in two weeks time.
